Week 8 journal entry

I feel that I can really walk away from this course with a real sense of accomplishment it has been a wonderful expierience for me creating the wiki and doing all the reasearch for the various web tools. The work done by everyone in the course was outstanding. I must admit if you are going to do online courses the video conferencing is a must in my opinion. I am feelin a little stressed out about my digital project but overall I fell that I did accomplish what I set out to do and that was to go through the process about selecting a web tool creating the ratioale for it and in my case creating the video that was my project.This course has been a real educational expierience for me there seemed to be a lot of complaining about this and that in the forms but that is what technology brings, you must work around these issues that is really what I will take away from this course and also the valuable web tools and the issues dealing with copyright very enlightening for myself. Thanks for your help throughout this course brian and good luck in the future.

Week 7 journal entry

Myself and Tracey dedcided to meet and go over the wiki site word for word and we have refined it to a finished product for submission. We could have used oovoo but thought this would be a good way to finish up the project. I have ran into a few issues with my digital project regarding uploading and formatting but I found as long as I took a break and came back I was able to work through the problems and I must say thank you for the internet lots of help there dealing with these sort of things. The one thing about technology that you can count on is that it is going to keep changing so you really have to keep up with it to stay current. I have to admit one thing about this online course it is nice to see the other peoples work that is something that generally does not happen in the classroom where everybody is working on their own projects. By being able to read and see other peoples work it helps to get a feel about your own project makes up for the lack of human interaction with the online delivery of course material.

Week 6 journal entry

I ran into a few issues with time allotment this week to many family commitments but never the less I am working to complete my assignments. Myself and Team leader Tracey Chen have been going over our group project and we are finalizing the look and feel to the wiki so that seems fine. My classmates have done such an excellent job on their web tool reasearch and their wiki sites that it is really up lifting to try and read them all you must find it over whelming to rerad it all Brian keep up the good work.I think that it would be very easy to break the digital copyright laws if a person did not take the time to educate ones self regarding this important issue so thank you for bringing this to the forefront of this course. The digital proposals that I have seen are really interesting and everyone seems to be moving along quite nicely with their chosen project.

Week 5 journal entry

Our wiki project is coming along fine, there is so much information out there it can be over whelming when looking through all of it. Our layout seems fine and the external links are done. I have inserted some pictures into the wiki site this is really an eyeopener for me as I have never really thought about blogs and wikis as an instructional tool. I had a few issues grasping the need for the internal links but came to the conclusion that it is a very quick way to move through the wiki with the internal links. I am currently doing reasearch on my youtube video and have found some fascinating videos from some of the big electrical motor manufactures.The my fellow classmates wiki sites are excellent what a wonderful job everyone is doing. the video conferencing is working well I have overcome the camera issues with my laptop so that is a plus.

Week 4 Journal entry

I forgot to write about my technology and trend reasearch assignments in my previous weekly journal so I will comment about it right now. I have found so many useful web tools to use, I will have to find a way to adapt them to the classroom. I really like youtube there are so many excellent videos that a instructor could use to enhance the classroom activities and reinforce the theory aspects of the electrical industry which is my field of expertise. I found Michael Giest's website to be really informative and this man is a real believer in the freedom of the internet and he is a fighter for it. I have made my descision on my digital project and it is going to be a short youtube video involvind the rotating field in a motor application. It sounds good on paper so I have to now come through with the finished product. I really have found the linking of the wiki material to be such a neat thing like a big spider web. My other classmates have done a wonderful job on their reasearch projects and I have really enjoyed reading about them.

Week 3 journal entry

I am finding that for a online course you must be disciplined in your approach to setting time aside for your various projects. This is the first time I have taken an online course so I can see where a person could lose focus if he or she did not maintain a certain level of commitment to the course. I really love oovoo what a great tool for communicating, a phone is one thing but it is nice to see a face to tie the voice to. I am learning so much about copyright that I really did'nt think about before this course.The access copyright website is full of useful information as is the creative commons website so many brilliant people have dedicated so much of their time for a noble cause. Our Group wiki is coming along and I am finding this quite interesting if somebody told me copyright would be interesting I would have said no way.

Week 2 journal entry

I have found the video conferencing on oovoo to be a really useful tool for communicating other than a few problems with my camera. I feel that if you are doing distance learning it is nice to see a face once in a while it brings the human element back into the course. I am very fortunate to have Tracey Chen as my group member and team leader she is a very dedicated individual. I was really quite surprised at really how easy it is to set up the wiki site and add information these can be very powerful tools if you provide the right frame work for the content. I have found the reasearch tools to be very useful and I am really enjoying searching through the various articles so many to see.

Week 1 journal Blog

Well here it is week 2 and I am just getting to my week 1 journal entry. I have found the beginning of the course to be alot of fun very interesting I really loved the video conferencing that is really cool. This type of communication would work really well when dealing with student's during an online course or even in a classroom course where you could interact after hours when a question may come up regarding homework etc. Tracey my team member and our team leader has started the wiki site for copyright and education I have traversed the wiki page and have been doing my own research regarding copyright and education. I have found the moodle page to be a very good source of information. The online complaining has been an eyeopener it seems it is easier to complain online than it is in the classroom oh well this is a good introduction for me as I plan to use online as a way to build courses in the future.
